Pairs Events

Music:
The competition DJ will play a random selection of upbeat chart music for the PAIRS events. The music will have a similar tempo to the Set Routine Solo choices to maintain consistency across the competition.

Choreography:
PAIRS are required to perform their own choreography to the selected music.

The choreography should be based on the fundamentals of Cheerdance but may also incorporate elements from other dance styles, such as Street, Jazz, Latin American, etc.

PAIRS from the same dance school are permitted to work together on their choreography and may perform the same or similar routines.

The following elements are not allowed:

  • Gymnastics, stunts or lifts.
  • Any movements performed seated with the bottom in contact with the floor
  • Leg extensions from a kneeling or crouching position
  • Any travelling floor choreography

Competitors should consider the safety of other competitors on the dance floor when selecting choreography.

All PAIRS events can be entered by mainstream competitors of any age. Unfortunately, this category is not available for parent competitors.

The age category is determined by the eldest of the two competitors.
Example: If one competitor is 7 years old and the other is 8 years old, the pair will compete in the 8-years age category.

Age categories for each PAIRS event are determined after all entries have been received. In most cases, PAIRS will be placed in:

  • Individual age categories (e.g. 12 years) or
  • Combined age categories (e.g.12 & 13 years).

Age category information will be published approximately one week before the competition.

Competitors must enter the correct age category, and proof of age should be available if requested.

Each event is adjudicated by an expert panel of independent dance professionals.

A qualified scrutineer uses the skating system to analyse the adjudicators’ marks. From the preliminary rounds, six PAIRS are normally selected for the final round, where they are placed in order of merit. Occasionally, 5, 7, or 8 finalists may be seen, which can occur due to the scoring system.

All finalists receive a trophy at the prize presentation.

First names and dance schools of finalists will be announced during the prize presentation and published on the website after the competition. Teachers are asked to inform the event organiser if they have any safeguarding concerns regarding this publication.

Finding a space:
When entering the dance floor, competitors should choose a suitable space away from other competitors. Competitors are encouraged to avoid overcrowding the front area and instead find a spot that allows sufficient space to perform the routine and gives adjudicators a clear, unobstructed view.

Staying within your space:
Competitors are expected to remain within their chosen space throughout the routine.

Respect and courtesy:
Competitors must show respect and courtesy to fellow competitors and floor staff at all times.

Adjudication:
Adjudicators will take dance floor etiquette into account during judging.

Qualified dance teachers may enter PAIRS events. However, this is not permitted if they have competed as a “Parent” competitor in the SET ROUTINES SOLO or CHEER FUSION SOLO.

There aren’t Additional Needs categories for PAIRS events. Competitors may perform their own choreography, which can be adapted to suit individual needs.
